My Involvement:
''I have been a patient of Seattle Children's Hospital for over four years at the adolescent clinic, nutrition, physical training, and physical therapy.
I have been a volunteer at the Child Life department since October 2012. I also hope to volunteer in Stanley Stamm Summer Camp this summer.
I was a program intern for the Center of Diversity & Health Equity and Marketing & Communications in the summer of 2010. I returned as a program intern for the Center of Diversity & Health Equity in the summer of 2013.
I am an observer and shadowing a general surgeon at the hospital since 2014. He has been an inspiration for me since senior year of high school and I was ecstatic after hearing his response of allowing me to shadow him. It is an honor and a privilege to finally be able to meet him and have him as a guidance and mentor.
I am honored to be the E. Nannette Strahl and Bernice Strahl Caveryly Scholarship recipient for 2014.
I am currently working at Seattle Children's as a Family Service Coordinator. I get to interact with the patients and families through scheduling and checking them into their appointments. I am learning how to efficiently navigate the hospital system, work with different departments within the hospital simultaneously, answer and help patents with their questions and concerns about insurance, and strive to make sure every patient feels valued. Most importantly, since I am one of the first people patients and families meet, I am representing the hospital, physicians, and providing the positive initial and lasting impression that they will have at SCH.
My future goal is to make every child smile again. Seattle Children's has always been and forever will be an important part of my life.
